Home Safety and Security takes more than locks, it takes brains.

Americans face heightened security risks in their own homes.

Missouri City, Mo. (PRWEB) –  As America fights the war on terror from foreign threats it’s citizens face an even greater risk to security on the home front.

In the United States a burglary occurs every 8 seconds and most happen in broad daylight between the hours of 10 am and 3 pm; just when people are at work or in school.  The typical burglar is not a professional but some teenager who can spend an average of 8 minutes to strip you of your cash, jewels, guns, gold, silverware and electronic equipment.

That’s less time than is takes to go to Starbucks for a cup of coffee.

One survey in Pennsylvania revealed that 81 percent of residential intrusions occur through the first floor of the home with 34 percent of the criminals entering right through the front door.

Another study in Connecticut cited that 23 percent came through a first floor window and 22 percent broke through the back door.

According to the FBI Preliminary Semiannual Uniform Crime Report, many of these crimes were committed without the burglar ever having to use force since they were able to enter the house from an UNLOCKED door.

There are several key elements that can make the difference between becoming a victim of a home invasion crime and having a house or office that is safe and secure. Many are simple and use common sense.

1. Locks are only as secure as the door and door frame they are attached to. If the door is flimsy and the door frame weak, picking the lock is a waste of time since the door can be easily kicked in.

2. Burglar alarms only work after the criminal has entered your home. Industrial grade secure locks prevent them from ever getting that far.

3. An intruder will pick his victim based upon who is the easiest prey. If your neighbor has better security than you, you’re the one he wants.

4. Do it yourself security measures are never as good as having a professional, with years of experience, training and know how, install and service them.  Your home and family’s safety is far too important to take a chance on inferior products or installation. When it comes to security, let the pros handle it.
