The Mini was such a big hit in its introduction that the British Motor Corp quickly started developing a utility version of the Mini. Known as the Mini Truck, this work horse came with a truck bed. Soon after the development of the Mini Minor truck, BMC decided to make a Mini Minivan. All the new models incorporated the look of the original Mini Cooper that everyone loved.
The popularity of the Mini Cooper was rapidly growing and the company decided to expand and make new models for its fan base. The 1961 Mini introduced the MK 1 design. In 1963 BMC came out with the all new Mini Cooper S. The 63 Mini Cooper S was designed with performance and handling in mind. The Mini already had a low center of gravity and small wheel base gave the Mini handling that could give you neck cramps. But BMC took this already great base and tuned it for better handling and add some much needed horsepower. The Mini S series soon became a hit and took over the streets.

It has been a long time since BMC rolled out a Mini; however another company stepped forward to transfer the iconic image of the classic Mini Minor into the modern world. In 2001 BMW Motor Corp designed and started producing the all new MINI. The 2001 Mini incorporated all the key visual points of the classic model such as its small size and iconic round headlights. The ultra small compact car came with a back seat and an inline 4 cylinder engine.
Soon after introducing the Mini in 2001 BMW revealed its plans to produce a supercharged Mini Cooper S. The buzz soon became a reality and in mid 2002 BMW rolled out their new line of Mini Cooper S series. The new Mini S came with a 1.6 liter inline 4 which was assisted with a supercharger. They didn’t stop their, they beefed up the suspension and added a few design changes.
The popularity of the Mini continued to grow exponentially, this time it was world wide. Even the old classic Mini’s were gaining more popularity with the introduction of the new MK 1. BMW wanted to do something new and decided to start producing a convertible Cabrio. The Cabrio came as a soft top convertible with the same engine specs as its predecessor.
What does the future hold for the BMW Mini Cooper and Cooper S? Well we are hoping that BMW will look into the past and recreate the Mini Van and the Mini Truck. The Mini has become an instant classic and an icon for more then a few generations of car enthusiasts.
